6 Reasons To Head To Europe This Winter

As if there aren't enough reasons to go to Europe in general, this is all about trekking around the European Winter Wonderland[s]. I recommend going before the start of the new year to take advantage of some holiday sights, but any time in the winter is amazing!

1. Great Deals!

There are so many great air fare deals to Europe in the winter! There is a deal RIGHT NOW to head to London from NYC for under $300! If you're a Delta Skymiles member, you can get to Zurich, Stuttgart, or Munich from Atlanta for 50,000 miles. If you know about Skymiles and crossing the pond, then you know it's a great deal!

2. Less Tourists

This past January, we took advantage of the winter season by heading into the Louvre in Paris - there was essentially NO LINE so you could get around easily and take in so much more during the visit. Some museums even have free or reduced entrance fees during the winter season. Regardless, it is definitely less crowded this time of year - one minor exception may be the winter markets...but it's SO WORTH IT!

3. Can you say CHRISTMAS MARKETS?!

I cannot begin to express the beauty of the Christmas Markets in Europe. Hot wine, Belgian waffles, chocolate, handmade gifts - need I say more?

Trdelník

4. Great food to warm you up

If you're not into hot Belgian Waffles or Gluhwein (hot wine), try an Irish Coffee, Bavarian Pretzels, or Trdelník (chimney cake)! There are so many delectable options to keep you warm during the cold winter months. Last December we drank Gluhwein and ate Trdelník in the SNOW in the old square in Prague - talk about dreamy!

5. Incorporate holidays for more time away

Take advantage of the holidays by booking less attractive travel days and incorporating the holidays into your vacation. Use the already planned holiday time off of work to create a week-long European adventure! If this isn't an option, go the week before or the week after a major holiday. Most others will be resting at home or going insane trying to finish their last minute shopping, but you'll be sipping hot wine at the market doing your shopping.

6. Adorable photo-ops

We all know there would be lying if I didn't confess that a few pictures were perfect for the 'gram. Not to mention the prints for photo albums and frames back home!

Any ideas on where you'll head this winter?
